During your visit to Sneaton Castle Centre you will be able to discover a wealth of heritage and unspoilt beauty. Situated deep in Captain Cook Country, a visit to the nearby ancient harbour of Whitby is usually first on the agenda – here in his youth, Cook learned many of his skills of the sea. Perched high on the cliffs overlooking the historic port is the ancient Abbey of Whitby, built during the 13th and 14th Centuries and which stands on the site of the monastery founded in 657, home of St.Hilda and Caedmon.

Inland from Whitby you can set out to discover and enjoy 'Heartbeat Country'– the heather-clad moorlands and rolling hills that are part of the wide expanse of the North York Moors National Park.

Staff at the Centre will be only too pleased to provide you with the
information you may need to explore this truly outstanding area of Britain. The countryside and the coast and their picturesque old villages have changed little since Cook's boyhood. Also, don't forget the shop at the Centre has a comprehensive range of maps and guides.
