The Learning Zone is available to both school and youth groups resident in the Centre and those who wish to come for a half or full day visit. Staffed by qualified teachers, we offer teaching activities specific to each topic, in high quality surroundings. The Learning Zone provides an environment in which students of all ages and abilities can learn about St Hilda and the Anglo Saxon times in which she lived, about Whitby as a religious centre over the centuries, about the life and work of the modern religious community which lives here. A visit to medieval Whitby Abbey can be included. It is possible to study many aspects of the National Curriculum in a lively and stimulating way. There are displays, models, and hands-on activities. The sessions are inter-active, with students able to dress up as monks and nuns, enjoy medieval food and engage in activities appropriate to the times being studied. It is possible to use the sisters’ chapel for learning about a place of worship, for drama and to have a short time of quiet reflection. A menu of topics is available on request. If you would like to know more about this exciting project, please contact Reception. |
